SOCKS!

Category: not baby – Mommy Rimes – 5:38 pm

I actually finished another pair of socks! And this pair is for me!

Woo hoo!

They’ve only been on the needles since August. I feel a great sense of accomplishment.

These are Trekking in what I would like to call a Mixed Berry color. They are knit on size 2 needles (they are extra teeny) and done in a simple stockinette stitch.

And I would also like to point out the excellent photo of my own feet. I don’t know how other people get cute pictures of their own feet, but I tried a whole bunch of different shots and my efforts resulted in the above picture as the best I could come up with. Yikes! But you get the idea.

Saturday Sky

Category: Pictures, not baby – Mommy Rimes – 7:15 am

A day late, but here’s what we saw yesterday morning.

saturday-sky.JPG

That’s the view from our kitchen porch.  It was quite a sight.

Over at Knerq, Nicole does this every week.  I was inspired yesterday, and probably only this Saturday to do this :)

I just had to take a break yesterday, although it was very hard.  They say that after 21 days of doing something it becomes habit.  Sure enough, this silly blog has become a habit.

Quilt along

Category: not baby – Mommy Rimes – 8:50 am

So I joined an online Quilt Along. Like I need one more thing to do this holiday season, right?

Anyway, it’s 2 weeks in and I’m actually getting my blocks done.

If you want to see the blocks, you can visit Crazy Mom Quilts.

Here’s week one.

And week two.

I’m using Urban Garden fabrics. They are just so nice.

Finished! And just in time for all the festivities!

And if anyone makes any reference to Chicago, Bears, or football, I will show you how different Pumpkin Toast Orange is to Chicago Bears Orange, thank-you-very-much.

Thanksgiving

Category: Uncategorized, not baby – Mommy Rimes – 11:43 am

I thought about writing a poignant post today. About how thankful I am for my family, friends, health, home, and basic comforts of being an American.

But I just feel altogether too sappy writing all of that. So instead, I’m going to leave you with a few images of the yummy things I have made to honor the occasion of having a houseful of people from 2 states, 4 counties, and 6 cities.

I am thankful for chocolate.

Specifically, Ghirardelli 60% bittersweet cocoa.

Let’s take a closer look.

Yum.

I am also thankful for mashed potatoes. And Pioneer Woman.

Yup, I made those too. No pictures though. You’ll have to see hers.

I also made some of this. I am thankful for sugar. Without which, none of this would be possible.

MMMMM. Yummy. These are Christmas gifts, but since they are already open, it’s ok to show you.

There will be much more food, for which I am very thankful. Plus, the company that will help eat all this food will be wonderful.

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Eating.

Christmas gifts round 1

Category: PARTY!, Uncategorized, not baby – Mommy Rimes – 7:56 am

This week we will be doing a little Thanksgiving with a little Christmas for those relatives we don’t get to see on the actual Christmas holiday. So I’ve been working like a busy little elf to get things all finished by Thursday.

I made a ______ for ________. It’s very pretty.

And this other one I made is made from _____ with a little bit of ______ and a ______ tucked inside. It’s for _____.

I made another ______. I loved the pattern so much I made another in a ______ colorway. This one is for my ______.

And since I don’t just make things from ____ and _____, but I also make _______. This one will be for _______ and _______.

Sorry, no pictures until after Thanksgiving!

Moving?

Category: Uncategorized, not baby – Mommy Rimes – 11:56 am

So, Daddy and I were chatting the other night, and we think it’s time for a move. Baby Rimes is not really a baby anymore, and the title of this website is a bit misleading.

I think perhaps we should move the whole blog to a new page seeing as how I spend just as much time writing about our child as I do about all my crafting, cooking, and other exploits. But how to accomplish this without sending all 3 of my readers elsewhere because they can’t find my site any more?

So be on the lookout!  We might just up and move to a new bat time at a new bat channel!

Quilts

Category: not baby – Mommy Rimes – 7:24 pm

I had the chance to see some of the most beautiful quilts in the world this weekend. Really. The best quilts from Japan, Australia, Germany, South Africa, US, and a whole lot more that I’m forgetting right now, but were all wonderful.

One of my favorites was the artist from Australia. These quilts were so amazing, and photographs cannot do them justice. There were these trees. And they were everywhere. Simply stunning.

I’m also a big fan of sparkles. I love embellishments on quilts. Especially beads and sparkly thread. It must be the little in me. One quilt was not only sparkly, it had CDs sewn right onto it. Talk about some major bling!

There were also some wonderful colorwork quilts that never cease to amaze me. I am just in love with these color wheel type quilts. Would you believe I’ve never made one? I’m such a bad art teacher.

I just want to say Congratulations! to every single person who had art work at this show.  It is an amazing feat to finish a quilt, let alone to finish one as beautiful as all the quilts that I had the pleasure of seeing.

More armwarmers!

Category: not baby – Mommy Rimes – 6:01 am

This is the practice pair I made of cotton yarn (not my favorite choice now that I’ve tried it) of the Hurry Up Spring Armwarmers from the SNB book by Debbie Stoller.

hurry-up-spring-armwarmers.JPG

This was also the first time I did a cable. You’ll notice the right glove looks a little funny. I don’t have a picture of the left glove for a very obvious reason. All my cables went backwards. So instead of nice little leaves, I have this crazy looking spots of raised cable while the edges are all furry. Oh well, I finally got the hang of it and am now working on those fabulous Fetching gloves I like so very much. I’ll try this one again soon.
